Protein Thermal Stability Essay example -- Research Analysis, Isolatio
Isolation techniques for protein take the least refined forms of the protein and develop a highly concentrated product. A concentrated protein product allows utilization of functional properties of proteins without fat, moisture, or carbohydrate contributing to or inhibiting the system. For example, through the use of isolation techniques, the starting concentration of soy flour or grit, 40-50% protein, can increase to more than 90% (Petruccelli 1995). When other substituents such as starches and fats are present in a system, water absorption generally occurs within the carbohydrate instead of the protein (Wolf 1970). As a result, isolation plays a two-fold role in concentrating the selected protein as well as eliminating unneeded or undesirable constituents in a food product. Soy protein holds desirable, functional properties. Such properties of isolated soy protein include the formation of gels and emulsions. The proteinââ¬â¢s hydrophilic properties make it an ideal component in confectionary and baked goods because of its water retaining properties and ability to maintain freshness. Additional uses in food stuffs include aeration, an adhesive in meat products, color control, and inhibition or promotion of fat absorption (Wolf 1970). These functional properties have allowed soy protein to become an emerging protein and usable food constituent. Whey, an important by-product of milk, contains almost all of the milk carbohydrate and about one-fifth of milkââ¬â¢s protein (Smithers 1996). Isolated wheyââ¬â¢s value, however, derives from its protein content. Its unique functional properties provide opportunities for a variety of applications. For example, whey proteins, because of their stability to acidic conditions, are an integral part of ... ...ments DJ. 1997. Antisocial Personality Disorder Essay -- Health Medical Pscyhology Dis
Antisocial Personality Disorder They are your neighbors. They are your friends. Maybe they are even your family. You talk with them often, and have even had them over for dinner on occasion. Perhaps your children play in the same playground or spend time in the same social group. Although you have noticed some quirks and idiosyncrasies, you would never know the difference, and you would never expect the worst. After something bad happens that draws your attention to them, you have been forced to accept the truth: someone you know has Antisocial Personality Disorder. Antisocial Personality Disorder is a personality disorder recognized within the American Psychiatric Associationââ¬â¢s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. This disorder is a lifelong infliction that affects more men than women. An approximate six percent of men and one percent of women in the United States population are considered ââ¬Å"sociopathsâ⬠or ââ¬Å"psychopathsâ⬠(Wood). In order to be diagnosed with this disorder, the individual must be at least eighteen years old, but the antisocial behaviors must have occurred in the individual by age fifteen. According to Dr. Luchiano Picchio, an individual diagnosed with this disorder is marked by an ââ¬Å"inability to social norms involving many aspects of the patient's lifeâ⬠(Picchio). As listed within the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual version Four (DSM-IV) (2000), the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial Personality Disorder are: (1) failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest; (2) deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure; (3) impulsivity or failure to plan ahead; (4) irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults; (5) reckless disregard for safety of self or others; (6) consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations; and (7) lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2000, p. 701). The typical psychopath hits his prime in his twenties, and eventually lessens his socially unacceptable acts by his forties (Black, 2000). He will probably come across as c... ...ity Disorder is a serious disorder experienced by many men and women every day. Although those inflicted by the disorder can lead normal lives and usually do, they can be considered dangerous, and those spending time around them should pay close attention to both their own safety and the safety of the sociopath. After all, as William and Joan McCord stated in The Psychopath, ââ¬Å"Psychopathy, possibly more than other mental disorders, threatens the safety, the serenity, and the security of American lifeâ⬠(Olsen 1984, p. 191). The diversity of religions is another argument
Personally, I find the Hallsââ¬â¢ arguments convincing, maybe because they are consistent with my previous experience. My opinion is that science is a more reliable way of exploring the world. Its advantage is that there is only one science with the scientific method universally recognized in all or most parts of the globe, whereas the marginalization of different parts of society often occurs because there are different religions and people follow different views. The diversity of religions is another argument why science as a universal world outlook should take precedence before it.The scientific method seems to be a far more reliable method of exploring the world. It is based on observations, not some obscure revelations of prophets and messengers from God, and the scientist is expected to be thorough and honest in documenting the outcomes of the experiment. Of course, there is also room for the construction of hypotheses that come arbitrarily out of somebodyââ¬â¢s mind, but these have to be substantiated with factual evidence in order to become valid knowledge.Presupposition of the existence of some kind of transnatural forces will inevitably mar the investigation of scientific facts because it leaves too much space to issues that arbitrarily affect the results of the investigation. Some people can object to the scientific method because they think it will leave the world very dry and boring.People have to understand that this mystical view of the world can leave it unexplored because consideration of issuers irrelevant to the process will have to become part of it.2. The essay by Edwin A. Locke does include ideas that merit attention. However, it sounds too supremacist with regard to other nations. The problem with identifying the success of the West with its more sound ideology lies in the fact that it many factors contributed to the prominence of the West. Some would say that it simply managed to rise ahead of other states, suppressing them with colo nialist policies. That other nations did not embrace technology often means that they had poor access to it.Robert Wright in his essay takes a different viewpoint. He critically assesses the notion of ââ¬Ëmanifest destinyââ¬â¢ for America that supports the idea of its greatness. Besides, he advocates that ethnocentrism is actually wrong for America because it conflicts with multiculturalism that permits peaceful coexistence of all people in the same land. International relations can also profit if American stop asserting their superiority and turn a more open eye toward other nations.3.à Lukacs believed that the dominate ideology of the 20th century was nationalism. Alliance between people on the basis of nations proved to be more powerful than affinity that was based on class as the one assumed Marxists.Lukacs argues that people were swept by nationalist feelings that outstripped other ideological quirks such as Communism. The Cold War was, in the opinion of Lukacs, protra cted because of the persisting anti-Communism embraced by many in the West. In Lukacsââ¬â¢ view, this is a spontaneous, often irrational feeling that surfaces only within the bourgeoisie, but also among workers themselves. The main reason for its existence is the desire of respectability. His criticisms can also be applied to anti-terrorism rampant today, a feeling that also leads to oversimplification and overstatement of the challenge ââ¬â for example, manifested in the proneness to blame the whole Muslim world for the acts. The author identifies problems with the dissolution of the empires with the rise of nationalist feelings in these areas, spurred on by masses and desire of local officials to become leaders of new states.Nationalistic feelings also fuel wars for independence that occurred in the colonial world in the 20th century where the people sought to throw off the yoke of foreign powers, not necessarily for the benefit of their own nation. The state in Lucacsââ¬â ¢ perception is the political entity that is formally constructed: for instance, the Soviet state was dominated by one party. The nation, on the other hand, is more easily identifiable with people.4. Fundamentalism is going to be one of the key issues that dominate American politics and the national policy-making worldwide. It represents the trend to address religious texts for guidance on all historic events, a road map to success and an accurate prediction of future events if humans interpret it correctly. This tradition leads people to interpret modern history in apocalyptic terms, viewing the world as a battlefield between the Christ and the Anti-Christ. This can lead to the inclination to discard all technological innovations because the Satan is expected to make use of them in order to take control of the earth. Moreover, people will expect the second coming of the Christ.

Ethical rights
Normally this cheating would not affect her but in this chemistry class the teacher grades on a curve. If the kids do well on the test because of cheating the curve would not be In the favor of the other kids and Francesca. Francesca Is debating If she should let it go or tell the teacher. If Francesca uses the utility test it would be ethical for her to tell the teacher that her friends were cheating on the mid-term so the curve is not effected. With Francesca telling the teacher is would be maximizing the good for her.Her friends that are cheating on the mid-term would the effect Francesca because then If she falls this test she would be catch up the semester. With the semester almost ever she wouldn't have the time to safe her grade from a bad test score. With the failing of the test it could set her up to fail the class. Without telling, it would not be maximizing the good for her on the test; the chances of her getting a good grade goes down a lot because of her friends cheating . By telling the teacher it would put her in a chance to better asses how much she knows of what she has been learning. With the test not showing her true ability In the class, and the teacher would not see what type of student she really This Is why It would be better for her to tell her teacher about her friends that were cheating. By Francesca also telling the teacher it would maximize the good for the class. Without the cheaters setting the curve at a crazy high it give them a fair chance to get a good grade, unlike the students who really studied will get a bad one. With the cheaters getting away with it would put the class In an unfair disadvantage. The class would then see that would have to study way more then they have to when they truly did not. This effect would effect all of the other students classes. By them spending more time to study for this class and not the others, to make up for this bad grade, they might get behind in there other classes. This all leads to unneede d stress on the students where they stress enough about school, sports and other extra circular activeness. This is how by her telling would maximize the good for the class as students. Another reason why It would be better for her to tell the teacher Is that It would help the teacher. With the classing doing badly on the test is would reflect badly on the teacher. The teacher would think that he is not teaching the students the right material and there not getting it. With the teacher not really knowing why the students did bad he would have to feel that he needs to explain more about what ex.'s teaching. While compared to if he knew there was the cheaters he would get a true assent of where his students are In the class, and see what they need more help label the teacher as one you can easily cheat with for other future students. That is why by Francesca telling the teacher it would benefit him. The cheating doesn't does not Just affect the class if Francesca does not tell if really affects the school. If the student are cheating in this class what to say this is the only class they are doing it in. This could be Just one of the five classes they are cheating in. If Francesca tell the teacher, he will tell the school know. The school will then take the actions that are need to make sure these wont happen again with these students.Other teacher that have these students in there class will be notified to make sure there not cheating in there class also. With the school stopping the cheating it could be saving the reputation of the school. Cheating is a big deal for schools, they would take the approbate actions in punishments to make it clear to the cheating students that if they are caught again cheating the consequences would be far more severe next time. The harm that could from the students cheating could effect way more then the teacher and school now, but there own Jobs and society in the future. This introduction to chemistry could Just the start for these students where other classes just get harder and harder. They would be more likely to cheat in the classes to come if they got away with it the first time. The cheating would help the students get jobs they do not deserve What if one of the student wanted to be a experimental biological chemist in the future, and he got away with all of his years in school cheating and not really learning the materiel he was taught. Then in society he makes a horrible go wrong and the effect that would have would be far greater then the present time in college. That is why with Francesca telling the teacher now it would possibly have less repercussions later. Some people would say that it is better for Francesca not to tell that her friends where cheating. Her friends know that they saw that she had seen them cheating on the mid-term. With her telling the teacher could lose those friends and also create far more drama outside of class. They all dorm together and her friends will be mad at her that s he told and whatever there punishment would be, failing the mid-term ND on watch by the school, they would blame her for it.This could cause more harm for Francesca then good for all the other people affected. They could also say that if she really was studying and not waiting till the last minute she wont have to worry about what grade they get on the test. It could also effect there standing with the school, she does not know if this is there first warning and they might get a more severe consequence this time. All of these reasons are wrong because the affects that would have on the few student could not out way the affects that it could possibly have on the everyone else. That is why Francesca is ethical by telling the teacher according to the utility test. The effect that the cheating students would have on the Francesca, the class, teacher, school and society in the future is far greater. It was the choice if the students to go out instead of studying was there own fault. They knew the consequence of cheating and they still decided to go ahead with it, it not Francesca fault that she wanted to have a fair chance on the test like all the other students. That is why is would be better that Francesca tells that she saw the other students cheating when the

Winter’s Bone
Essay Assignment 2 October 7th, 2012 Draft 2 (Final) Winter's Bone I would like to start off saying I really enjoyed this book so far. I really like the text, and description it shows. There is a lot of realistic experience in the book that helps me create my visual of the book. ââ¬Å"They didnââ¬â¢t do nothinââ¬â¢! They didnââ¬â¢t do a goddamned thing! What the hellââ¬â¢re you tryinââ¬â¢ to pull? â⬠Most books are cheesy written, and worded. This book was different, and really fit into my interest. I usually find it hard to get into a book, an reading a lot of the time makes me sleepy.I was able to adapt to this book quickly to gain a lot of questions an wondering what was going to happen next. The Ozarks is a interesting place that helps shape the lives of anyone who lives there. Ree finds herself, her family, all on the bad side of the law since illegal activities are done to support themselves in such a harsh environment. These illegal activities of her fathe r start Ree on a journey. She has to find her father with only the help of family to save her familyââ¬â¢s house and land. Jessup, Reeââ¬â¢s father, is the most important cause of her journey. He comes home and leaves ââ¬Å"promising heââ¬â¢d be back soon as he could with a paper sack of cash and a trunkload of delights. â⬠Ree is left with the tasks of chopping wood and making sure there is food on the table for everyone, which is usually the man of the houseââ¬â¢s job. He had told her to not even look for him until ââ¬Å"you see my face. â⬠(Chpt 1) Then, when the kids get home from school riding in Sheriff Baskinsââ¬â¢ patrol car, the sheriff asks her if she has seen Jessup and informs her that he put the land and house up for the bail.If Jessup didnââ¬â¢t show up for court, they would be poor and homeless. Ree also has to be a mother to the kids, because her mom is pretty much useless. Something happened, whether it was drug or her lifestyle while Je ssup had been imprisoned before, and the medicine that she is on is not helping. Ree had to get Sonny and Harold ready for school even if the clothes were dirty and there was no butter to go with the grits. The kids show up home having hitched a ride from the deputy up to the Dollyââ¬â¢s house for which they were reprimanded by Ree to not ven associate with ââ¬Å"the law. â⬠Ree later makes sure to put them under her wing so that they could learn to hunt and cook if there was ever a need for them to take care of themselves. She starts showing them how to make deer stew and how to shoot and clean squirrels. The next day, when they got home. Teardrop came over. When he realizes he needed to help his brotherââ¬â¢s family. He lets Ree know that the police found Jessupââ¬â¢s car burnt, but he wasnââ¬â¢t in it. He also gave them more money to help out.He then also gave her the advice of selling of the timber on their land before the bail bondsman came to throw them out o f the house, but Ree still thinks that it wonââ¬â¢t happen. Teardrop starts talking about times before when things were good and family all got along. Ree goes to town to get some groceries and is getting to the point of believing her father is dead but trying to figure out why. ââ¬Å"Either he stole or he told. Those are the things they kill you for. â⬠Gail told her. Chpt 15) Bringing back to my thoughts, where I had a dead beat father who ran off, and never came back home. Which made my mom have to do everything for us alone. It's always weird how the books you read can sometimes relate back to you in ways you never thought they could. I then know I'm not the only one who had that experience. Which then as well helps me cope with my issues an understand better. I really like that about a book when I can relate to some of the things going on in the story.

Career planning report - Essay Example The use of technology to enhance quality production has enabled different companies to demand experts in different fields of I.T from, hospitals, banks, schools to factories. Another reason for choosing these two fields is because they both fit the level of skills and talents that I possess and working for any of the two will enable me to perfect my skills and offer quality services. My skills include: currently doing computer science level 5, I have a taste for image and sites designing, and editing videos. In addition, I do have little knowledge concerning different programming languages, for example, java, python, SQL, DRroket, Pascal and HTML, CSS and javascript. Moreover, these two fields gives an individual the platform to learn because one will be offered different challenges or problems that he/she is supposed to help in and researching in such areas gives an individual extra knowledge to learn about. For the database administrator, they are responsible for the security, integrity and the performance of the database. Nevertheless, depending on the company or the levels of the employee skills or responsibility, the role can differ from inputting data to the total management of information (Americas Job Exchange, 2015). Different organizations will have different diverse requirements and database needs. In clinic or hospitals, for example, the information of the patient will in most cases be recorded in the database, whilst private organization will most likely store the sales record, the details of the customer and more (Total Jobs, 2015). Subsidies Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Subsidies - Research Paper Example It will investigate whether the tax system serves as a subsidy to the sector or not. In Pakistan there are a large number of cafes and restaurants that apply charges on the Bills. Sometimes the rates of these charges are really high which makes it difficult for the common middle class man to have a meal in such restaurants. The study will try to explore whether this tax system is making a division in the class or not and is promoting a society which supports a class system or not. One of the major reasons for investigating this area is that Pakistan is a third world country with a majority of people in the middle class. There still exist a large numbers of places where only rich people reside. These places are the ones that apply huge tax rate on the bills. The study will investigate the correlation between tax and class;whether higher tax invites higher class. Studying the tax structure has been the interest of all countries as it is linked to the development of the country. Bargain et al, (2011)reports the progressive nature of the tax structure by sayingââ¬ËThe tax structure in almost all the countriesis progressiveââ¬â¢. This progressive nature of tax structures has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. Chaudhri (1965) in the research article ââ¬ËTaxation in Pakistan: A Critical Appraisalââ¬â¢ state the disadvantages of tax system by saying that ââ¬Ëwhatever money is collected is looted by the rulers or spent on unnecessary luxury itemsââ¬â¢. Qualitative research methodology will be applied because it will answer ââ¬Ëhowââ¬â¢, ââ¬Ëwhatââ¬â¢, ââ¬Ëwhyââ¬â¢ questions. For example, what are the benefits of tax system? Why tax system is applied? How tax system benefits the industry? etc. The research will also employ Quantitative research methodology because a set of interviews and questionnaires will be prepared. These interviews and questionnaires will cover the views of the owners of different cafes and restaurants. The results will be based on their responses and
